Paying It Forward

When I first discovered my gift of writing, I was hoping there would come a time when I could make my writing work for me. What I mean by making it work for me, I’m referring to the modern quote to “Pay it forward.”

I have crystal clear goals here; first, I want to be successful enough to write full time from home, and to give up the rat race of life in working for others and their dreams. I do not need to own a mansion in order to achieve this, I just need to be comfortable enough to be able to stay home and write while wearing my comfortable clothes, and maybe have the means to do whatever I want to do; without living above those means.

Secondly, I’m praying God will provide me ways to help others; to pay it forward, through my words or deeds. I chose to self-publish so I could have the freedom to use my creativity in how I see fit; nothing is lower than restricting one’s creativity; especially if that’s how they define themselves.

I must admit that I overestimated the power of social media when I chose to self-publish; I really thought that with social media, I would sell my book at the very least, on a consistent basis. I have a FB page, Twitter, I have built my own website for my blog, and I have recently joined Instagram. But, it’s been frustrating to say the least; FB only allows a select number of people to see your posts, and they only allow so many people to tag per post.

I will say that out of all of the social media, Twitter has been my biggest resource, and I’m gaining followers every day; including a few celebrities, who have taken the time to re-tweet my blogs and promos.

Back to paying it forward. Most all of you who follow me or those who are close family and friends know about Jeff’s Kidney failure and end stage renal disease. But what many of you may not know, is that Oaklawn Hospital has waived extremely high medical fees from all of Jeff’s surgeries and hospital stays that Medicare won’t pay for since he was diagnosed in 2016.

That being said, when this Coronavirus came in and started destroying lives, I decided to pay it forward by organizing another promo for my book. I will be donating 100% of my royalties from sales now through August 31, 2020. After this promo is over, I will present Oaklawn with a check to put toward whatever they need for this virus. I will never forget what Oaklawn has done for us; they have some of the best doctors and nurses in their field, and this is a chance for me to show some gratitude; because of these fine men and women, I still have Jeff with me.

Once again, I turn to all of you; please share this blog post- that’s all I ask. I need to reach a bigger audience to make a difference. Thank you for your support, and God Bless!
