Independence Day is still my favorite holiday. Just like Christmas and Thanksgiving, it should be celebrated with family and friends. Jeff and I have had a tradition for about the last ten or so years to travel to Harrison Michigan and spend Independence Day weekend with our Aunt and Uncle at their cabin and lake.
No place is perfect, and though our country is the most divided at this moment, there is no other place I would rather live. I think about the Declaration of Independence that was signed 244 years ago by our Forefathers, and I can just imagine what their reactions would be to the current issues of our beloved nation.
Too many people have seemed to forget what this country was built on, and worse yet, more people have lost their gratitude; they have demonized our entire nation for a few bad people. Now we have people are wanting to ban our national anthem and our flag, among other things. Everything is being labeled “black” or “white”; our current men and women who defend us and those who have fought and died for us to express our opinions live free are being disrespected, and despite all of this, I will never want to live anywhere else.
I will make it known now; loud and proud, that no matter what the ingrates create in our country, I will never be told I can’t fly our flag and salute our military, I will back the “Blue” always, I will never conform to any form of racism; black, white, or otherwise. I will always hold a depth of gratitude in my heart for our nation, for those who created it, and for those who defended it; yesterday and today.
Our leaders need to stop the crumbling of our nation’s history; with allowing our monuments being dismantled. This is our country’s history that should be preserved forever; the good, the bad, and the ugly, it’s still our history, and it cannot be erased!
